TDI Windstorm Certificate and Inspector Lookup Guide
This guide explains how to verify TDI windstorm certificates, find authorized inspectors, and navigate the WPI-8 and WPI-8E certification process for Texas properties in designated catastrophe areas. ALFA Engineering provides engineering documentation support but does not issue certificates or claim a TDI appointment.
How to Navigate the TDI Process
Confirm your property is in a catastrophe area
Use ALFAP TX or the TDI website to verify whether your property address falls within a designated catastrophe area. Windstorm inspection requirements apply only to properties in these areas.
Determine the construction stage
Ongoing construction follows the WPI-8 inspection path. Completed construction follows the separate WPI-8E evaluation process. The construction stage determines which path applies.
Verify inspector authorization with TDI
For WPI-8 inspections, confirm that your chosen inspector holds a current TDI appointment. TDI maintains information about authorized inspectors on its official website.
Prepare engineering documentation
A Texas-licensed professional engineer prepares the required drawings, calculations, and documentation for TDI submission. ALFA Engineering provides this service for qualifying projects.
Submit to TDI and await certification
TDI reviews the submission and issues the WPI-8 or WPI-8E certificate if requirements are met. Certification is not guaranteed and timelines are set by TDI.
Official TDI Resources
For certificate verification, inspector authorization, and official requirements, visit the Texas Department of Insurance website directly.
TDI Windstorm Inspection InformationInspection authority and certificate limits
ALFA Engineering, LLC is a Texas-licensed professional engineering firm providing windstorm engineering, project review, and certification-process support for qualifying residential and commercial projects in designated coastal areas. Availability depends on the property address, construction stage, and agreed scope.
For ongoing WPI-8 construction, ALFA can review the scope, help identify the applicable inspection path, and coordinate engineering documentation. An official construction-stage inspection must be performed by a TDI windstorm inspector or a Texas professional engineer holding the required current TDI appointment. ALFA does not claim an active TDI appointment; authorized inspection services are available only where the assigned engineer's required appointment is verified before scheduling.
Completed construction follows the separate WPI-8E evaluation and documentation process. Concealed work may not be verifiable. TDI reviews submissions and issues the certificates; ALFA does not issue certificates or guarantee eligibility, approval, insurance coverage, or review times.
