Texas Windstorm Inspection Cost Guide
Windstorm inspection and engineering costs vary based on your property location, construction stage, building size, and the scope of engineering work required. This guide explains the factors that influence cost and how to get a project-specific quote.
Factors That Affect Cost
Property location
Whether the address falls within a TDI-designated catastrophe area determines if windstorm inspection is required at all.
Construction stage
Ongoing construction follows the WPI-8 inspection path. Completed construction follows the separate WPI-8E evaluation process, which may involve different scope and cost.
Building size and type
Larger or more complex buildings require more engineering time for load analysis, documentation, and plan review.
Scope of services
Inspection-only projects cost less than full structural engineering design projects that include sealed drawings and calculations.
Documentation needs
The level of engineering documentation required for TDI submission affects the engineering hours and total fee.
Inspection authority and certificate limits
ALFA Engineering, LLC is a Texas-licensed professional engineering firm providing windstorm engineering, project review, and certification-process support for qualifying residential and commercial projects in designated coastal areas. Availability depends on the property address, construction stage, and agreed scope.
For ongoing WPI-8 construction, ALFA can review the scope, help identify the applicable inspection path, and coordinate engineering documentation. An official construction-stage inspection must be performed by a TDI windstorm inspector or a Texas professional engineer holding the required current TDI appointment. ALFA does not claim an active TDI appointment; authorized inspection services are available only where the assigned engineer's required appointment is verified before scheduling.
Completed construction follows the separate WPI-8E evaluation and documentation process. Concealed work may not be verifiable. TDI reviews submissions and issues the certificates; ALFA does not issue certificates or guarantee eligibility, approval, insurance coverage, or review times.
